Hello, my name is Lisa and welcome to “The Old Farmhouse,” more commonly known as Oma & Pa’s house.
Summer Outdoor Living Tour
A few fun facts about our home:
We bought the farm in the late 90’s. It had an old farmhouse that we gutted and remodeled which took approximately a year. We were a few weeks from moving in, and it burned to the ground in the early morning of Mother’s Day. So that’s when we decided to build a new/old looking farmhouse.
We did some research and found vertically sawn clapboard siding, reclaimed wood flooring re-milled from old barns, and used tall, skinny windows to give our new farmhouse that old charm.
The front porch is where we spend weekend mornings watching the sunrise while drinking our coffee.
My unusual planters are the results of what I find when I’m out ‘junking” or “junking” in the barns, smokehouse, and corncrib here at the farm. I have stashed stuff for years from excessive collecting…haha.
I water my plants daily, and that tends to take up a lot of my morning.
This is our Big Boy, Thor, we have had and raised English Mastiffs for 30 Years.
On my side porch, I’m in love with my floors and especially since my daughter Holly painted them.
My family spends a lot of time in this area enjoying the pool.
The vintage lockers are a fun touch to the pool house.
This is Harley, our 13-year-old Yorkie who is “The King of the Castle.”
The outhouse was bought from a 92-year-old lady that looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if she would sell it.
The wooden part of the playground area came from a Craigslist ad around the St. Louis area.
The vintage merry-go-round was also a Craigslist ad, we paid around $100, and they hauled it traveling over an hour. WHAT A DEAL! And Nellie and Gus love it!
Our “girls” looking for a treat.
My husband Terry and I enjoy watching the sunset by our pool area after a long day.
My one tip would be to keep it simple, definitely nothing fancy. That way, everyone feels at home and truly enjoys themselves.
Tomorrow on the tour is Lauren King’s home. Her style is traditional with a little eclecticism mixed in. Her outdoor space has a laid-back, bohemian vibe with so much inspiration. You don’t want to miss it!
