We are so excited to show you a sneak peek of a project we recently completed. Earlier this month, we traveled to the Midwest to help our parents decorate their new home. With MW Designs opening later this year, it was a perfect addition to the portfolio (more to come). We missed Keli and her witty personality this trip, but we spent many days talking on the phone and she was able to provide her input as well. We hope you continue to check the blog over the following weeks to see the rooms we highlight in our upcoming posts.
With many thanks to our father, who provided a very decent budget, we immediately set to work upon arrival. Our initial focus was getting the right new pieces, at the right prices, that complemented the existing decor and fit into our plan for the look we were trying to achieve. Once we got everything together, we began the sewing, decorating, and moving furniture room to room. Yes!!! We do it all!!!
Decorating is truly a labor of love and a family affair for us. Since we do not get to see each other on a daily basis, we enjoy working together and cherish our family time. Even though we were working hard, we still made sure our children got to enjoy the often forgotten pleasures of a Midwestern summer, catching lightning bugs, fishing with grandpa, and adventures in the woods.

With the trend being bright white rooms now, our mom still enjoys a cozy, richly colored space. She wanted us to blend the southern charm of Georgia and the detailed touches of VA. Georgia homes have that extra frill mixed with beautiful antiques and contemporary elegance. While obviously a lot of effort went into these homes, they always felt loved and uniquely “lived in.” Our favorite charming, little town in Virginia was Middleburg, the “Nation’s Horse and Hunt Capital.” In Middleburg, you will find antiques, boutiques, churches, and eateries lining a shaded, slow-moving street and beautiful old buildings. All the stores are relaxed, comfortable, and have a welcoming quality about them. Our inspiration from Virginia was to use the subtle details of fox hunting and refined country living that represents the town.
Just because you draw influences from particular regions does not mean you have to travel to them to get your decorating requirements. Take lots of photos during your travels, look on Pinterest, or tear pages out of magazines and refer back to all of them. Think through what those areas’ styles mean to you and why you find them appealing. Similar looks and styles can be found almost anywhere. Your fushion of all those influences and details will achieve the look you want. For this project, we shopped at Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, local antique stores, Home Goods/TJ Maxx, The Front Porch in St. Louis, and many more. We also added many of our mom’s beautiful floral arrangements, favorite pieces, and heirlooms from her old home.
Sneak Peek of Midwestern Project
We couldn’t be more happy with the way it turned out and want to show the highlights with a few pictures. We will go into detail and focus on each room individually in the coming weeks. We are excited to share with you the pieces we found, our inspirations, the looks we tried to achieve, and our mother’s reaction to her new space.

It is all absolutely beautiful!!! Your dad and I could not be happier. We do not know how you girls achieved all of this in such a short time. You had the image in your minds and went to it even while entertaining the kids. Wonderful, great experience!
